Port of Tórshavn Joins Environmental Port Index (EPI)

Port of Tórshavn Sets Sail for Sustainability with Environmental Port Index Membership.

In the end of 2023, Even Husby and Jon Olav Stedje was invited to Tórshavn to present EPI for a broader audience. Representatives from from a number of Faroese ports, the destination company, government agencies, and local politician’s was informed regarding the benefits of using EPI. Experiences since EPI was established in 2017 and implemented in four Norwegian ports in 2019 was also presented.

Since the presentation there has been constructive dialogue between Tórshavn and EPI, and Torshavn has now decided to join the network. The port concluded that EPI was a beneficial tool for them to develop further as a cruise port, but also that it had benefits for the whole destination. This collaboration marks a significant stride towards our commitment to environmental stewardship and operational transparency in the North Atlantic basin. We are eager to leverage the EPI’s insights for a greener, more responsible cruise industry, showcasing Tórshavn not just as a prime destination but as a vanguard of eco-conscious port operations.
